Hi neighbors,

The air quality is moderately better in Eagle Rock today than over the weekend but stay vigilant. Today’s high will be 80 degrees and tomorrow’s high will be 84.

The Trader Joe’s mini-bag line is back, hopefully driving up a little business for Colorado Donuts.

Eagle Rock Opinions:

80% of respondents to yesterday’s poll said that YES, they changed their plans Saturday due to the unhealthful air quality.

Do you think local representatives are doing enough in response to the Boyle Heights fire for the communities affected by unhealthful air quality?

Four Eagle Rock Eateries Burglarized

In a swift early-morning burglary spree, three men broke into Fatburger, Cafe 86, Menchie's Frozen Yogurt, and Hodori in Eagle Rock on Wednesday, June 17. The suspects smashed the businesses' glass doors, quickly grabbed any cash left in registers or lock boxes, and fled in a waiting white sedan driven by a fourth person.

Four suspects were later arrested by Arcadia Police on suspicion of burglarizing Fika Fika Coffee in Arcadia the same morning as the Eagle Rock crimes. Arcadia Police could not comment on whether the individuals arrested are the same people suspected in the Eagle Rock burglaries.

However, security camera footage from Fika Fika Coffee shown on KTLA appears to show suspects wearing clothing similar to that seen in surveillance footage from the Eagle Rock businesses. The suspects also appear to arrive and flee in a vehicle similar to the one used in the Eagle Rock burglaries.

LAPD did not respond to inquiries.

Some of the businesses are moving to a cashless model.

Editor’s Note: Between the string of businesses closing or relocating due to increasing commercial rents and last week’s robberies, it’s a great time to show some support to our local small businesses. Maybe drop by one of the shops that were burglarized and show a little love.

Response to Boyle Heights Fire

Los Angeles Councilmember Ysabel Jurado posted on social media this morning that she and her team have distributed 18,000 N95 masks and 350 air purifiers to community members closest to the Boyle Heights cold-storage facility fire.

If you or someone you know in an affected area needs an air purifier, Councilmember Jurado’s message said to call her office: (323) 526-9332. Please note that several people on social media have said that they have not been able to get through. The voicemail box is currently full.

A clarification regarding yesterday's report about the 5.5 million "respiratory masks" Governor Newsom announced would be made available for distribution: Newsom was referring to N95 masks, not reusable respirators with replaceable P100 filters.

Eagle Rock Pop Pet of the Week: Bambina

Bambina, a friendly little black cat appeared in a church parking lot in Eagle Rock in winter 2021 where she charmed the humans she encountered and ended up living with one of them full-time. Although she still sometimes bristles at being an indoor only cat, her wild side comes out whenever a hapless lizard sneaks inside.

Her long jumps and high jumps are both truly impressive and although she may have Olympic dreams for 2028, she’s still too young to compete.

If you have an animal friend you’d like to nominate for Pet of the Week, please email a photo of your pet and a few fun facts about them to [email protected]
